Duration of a game

This rule applies to all games, except play-down and final games.

The maximum duration of an 8-end game is 2 hours (120 minutes), while the maximum duration of a 6-end game is 1.5 hours (90 minutes).

When you are nearing the end of the time limit for a game:

  • If, after the points are determined for an end, there remains more than 15 minutes to the duration of the game, an additional end is played, which will be the last end of the game. Each player will throw 2 stones.
  • If, after the points are determined for an end, there remains 15 minutes or less but more than 10 minutes to the duration of the game, an additional end is played, which will be the last end of the game. Each player will throw 1 stone. In such case, the free guard zone rule applies to the first 2 stones delivered (instead of the first 4 stones).
  • If, after the points are determined for an end, there remains 10 minutes or less to the duration of the game, no additional end is played. The game ends.
